For as long as she can remember, horses have been an inherent part of her life. In early childhood, she grew up with a Welsh Arab named Baby Travs. He taught Bonnie about responsibility, respect, care for animals, and care for herself. Then, as a teen, her horse Babe, an off-the-track quarter horse mare, trotted into her life. Babe required healthcare that conventional medicine could not provide, which commenced Bonnie’s journey into the world of holistic healing. For over twenty years, Bonnie has pursued knowledge, experiences, and education that embody the practices of bringing healing to animals and people alike—healing of the body, heart, mind, and spirit. It is in these life adventures that her soul finds its greatest fulfillment.
Bonnie’s passion runs deep for improving the health and wellness of her four-legged friends. In 2008, she earned her certification in equine and canine sports massage. Subsequently, she enrolled at The American College of Healthcare Sciences, where she studied anatomy and physiology, holistic nutrition, and herbal medicine. In 2011, she pursued additional education in the medical field and became a Registered Radiologic Technologist, working at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis and at an Orthopedic Clinic for 11 years. Performing X-rays and assisting in additional imaging modalities gave Bonnie a keen perspective on the biological inner workings of the human body, and subsequently, our animal friends—being reminded how similar all living beings are.
A few years ago, Bonnie experienced a workplace back injury unexpectedly. For many months, she found herself getting lost in the system of conventional medicine as her health was deteriorating. It became apparent that she needed to supplement her care with holistic options, which included the expertise of an acupuncturist, energy healing medicine, a craniosacral therapist, and a chiropractor. She was so encouraged by the results of her own holistic care journey that it solidified her intuitive drive to bring that equivalent level of care to animals and others in a similar manner.
This is what led Bonnie to Tom Mayes’ Integrated Equine Therapies, and like the popular expression goes, “mi casa es su casa” (my house is your house), my knowledge is your knowledge. She wants to share the knowledge she has gained through IET, her intuitive skill sets, and her heart with your heart. So, here she is, just a girl who loves her life journey with horses, and can’t wait to be apart of yours!
